HPBC Rent Deposit Scheme
The Rent deposit (Bond) scheme is for prospective tenants (18 ) in High Peak only at the moment. This is a way of securing a deposit for those in need of accommodation who are deemed by the Local Authority to be in priority need or who are claiming benefits or are on a low income.
High Peak Community Housing issue the Bond and High Peak Housing Project administers it on their behalf.
- The Bond is a paper bond and money does not change hands. It is a ‘promise’ of money made to the Landlord / lady that they can claim if there is any damage to property while you are the tenant.
- This ‘promise’ lasts for six months in the case of single or childless couples. A Bond, equal to the sum of up to £300 is issued to single people or childless couples taking up tenancies in shared houses or flats for the first six months.. This will be re-issued for a further six months £150 if all parties agree.
- A Bond of up to£500 is issued to families. In this case the Assured Short hold Tenancy must be for 12 months if possible. This can be re-issued at a reduced rate of £300 for a further 12 months if all parties agree.
- During that time you will be encouraged to replace the Bond a little at a time to your Landlord / lady so that you have some money which can be returned to you when you leave the tenancy.
- As part of the Bond there is an expectation that tenants will have a minimum of four Support Meetings with a member of staff from High Peak Housing Project. This will include, for example;
- Help with setting up Housing Benefit
- Meter readings; organising utilities etc
- Help with furnishings
- Support can continue after the initial four meetings for as long as it is needed.
